The Brockton Police Department has announced that 49-year-old Lieutenant James Baroud has died.

A member of the Brockton Police Department for 20 years, Lt. Baroud, worked his way up from patrol officer to Sergeant and then Lieutenant, and he has served as the Commanding Officer of the 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. shift for most of the last six years. Before joining Brockton Police, he spent five years as a police officer in the Town of Easton. Lt. Baroud also served our country with the United States Coast Guard.

The funeral will be held from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Route 123) Brockton on Thursday, June 16th at 9:30 a.m. then to St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church, 343 North Main St., Brockton where services of the Divine Mysteries will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Easton. Police Walk Through will be on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. followed by calling hours in the funeral home on Wednesday, June 15th from 2:00-6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider making a donation to First H.E.L.P. (Honoring the Service of Law Enforcement Officers Who Died by Suicide) or 2022 Braintree First Responder Suicide Awareness Walk.

Lt. Baroud is at least the fourth active-duty officer to die in Massachusetts in the last two months.
